About Me
Hi, I'm Sonya [sawn-ya].
The Basics: I was born and raised in North Carolina and have called Charlotte home since 2020! I graduated from UNC Wilmington with degrees in Psychology and Philosophy and a Pre-Law minor. I've worked in a neurosurgery clinic and as a paralegal outside of photography. Now, I currently maintain photography full-time in addition to my full-time corporate legal job!
Background: Since I was little, I loved looking through family photo albums for fun and sifting through stacks of memories. I naturally gravitated to cameras, I love being behind them and have always been keen to document things + capture people in the best light. I'm self-taught and have over 10 years of experience now building my craft. I've been able to work with a range of creatives and professionals, connecting with so much talent and community along the way.
My Approach: I'm inspired by my family's photos documenting our lives in the 90s/early 2000s, vintage things (cars, clothes, music, etc.) and editorial photography. I love to focus on style and aesthetics as well as documentary perspectives - blending genuine moments, emotions and interactions.
Other Details: I'm a pisces (and gemini rising) and love anything related to music, art and cooking! Some of my favorite activities include being outdoors, especially by a body of water, reading, cooking and sewing!
